How To Choose The Perfect Engagement Ring For Your Partner

You’ve decided to pop the big question, congratulations! Now before you can get down on one knee (or not depending on your style), you still need to buy one crucial element—the ring.

Your engagement ring purchase is something that you definitely don’t want to get wrong, but while there’s often a lot of pressure that comes with making such a big and extravagant purchase, don’t let the pressure take away from the excitement with these five tips to help you pick that perfect ring for your special someone.

Set your budget in advance

Before you embark on the great search for an engagement ring for your other half, you need to consider your budget; otherwise, you won’t get very far. As it’s an expensive and important purchase, possibly one of the most important in your life, the further in advance you set it, the better. This ensures that you won’t be getting yourself into any financial trouble or limits the chances of overspending. Plus, it also gives you more time to save some extra pennies to buy the ring of their dreams.

Match the ring to their personality

Jewellery is a very personal thing, and no piece more so than an engagement ring. As with all jewellery, different people have different tastes, and their choices reflect their individual personalities.

As your partner will be wearing this ring on (hopefully) a daily basis for the foreseeable future, it is crucial that not only do they, of course, like the ring but that it is on some level a reflection of themselves. Look at the pieces of jewellery they already have in their collection to get an idea of their preferences. It will aid you in your search so that you end up with something that undeniably suits them and their personality to a T.

Plan ahead

Just as you did when setting yourself a budget, give yourself lots of time to explore all the options out there. With so many types of cuts, bands, gemstones, and diamonds, it’s easy to find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed and out of your depth. Don’t rush the purchase or the process and instead leave yourself with plenty of time to get things right. Do your research, look into the top engagement rings and trends, and make a list of questions. Don’t know where to buy VVS Diamonds? Need to find out more about clarity and carats? Take your time, do your research, and find out.

Borrow a ring

There’s nothing worse than when you’ve finally settled on a ring, but it ends up being the wrong size. Granted, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s nice to get the fit right the first time. While most people probably don’t know their partner’s ring size, unless you’ve bought rings for them before, taking a wild guess isn’t recommended. The easiest way to get the perfect fit is by borrowing a ring that they already own – just make sure to go about it without making it obvious or raising their suspicions.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Choosing the right engagement ring can come with a lot of pressure, but don’t let that weigh you down or make you feel like you are all alone in your search. There’s plenty of help out there if you need it, so don’t be afraid to reach out and get some advice. Look online, but also go into various jewelers and ask the experts – that’s what they’re there for! And while the experts might ‘technically’ know best, don’t be afraid to get (trusted) friends and family involved as well. The experts won’t know your partner, but speaking to those who do could help you to see things with a new perspective and go about your search with a fresh pair of eyes.
