There are few things more wonderful than being asked to be someone’s maid of honour. It’s a sign that there is no one in the world that a bride would rather have by their side on the most important day of their lives. It’s a genuine privilege and something that most people would be utterly delighted to do. However, there is another side to it. As wonderful as a task being the maid of honour is, it’s also something that comes with a lot of responsibility. There’s a chance that you’ll have so many things on your plate that you might wish you’d never been asked at all. To help you avoid pulling your hair out, here are some of the things that you’ll probably be tasked with as the maid of honour.
The bachelorette party
The bachelorette party is often the first thing that jumps into the heads of many maids of honour the moment they’re asked. While the groom and his buddies will be off paintballing or getting completely drunk, it’s your job to make sure that it’s the kind of party that the bride really wants. Make sure to think carefully about the bride as a person when planning the party. Would they prefer a classy, subdued dinner or a night out on the town? Talk to the bride and find out what she wants before jumping to any conclusions.
Be a surrogate wedding planner
Most people can’t afford a dedicated wedding planner, and because of that, they have to take it on themselves. Of course, it’s certainly not easy trying to plan an entire wedding by yourself, so the bride is probably going to need your help. Why not find some specific jobs that you can take on in order to make her life easier? You can coordinate with people like the photographer as well as keeping everyone on track for what they’re supposed to be doing when the big day actually arrives. The bride is likely to be a little preoccupied, so she’ll probably need you to manage those kinds of things her behalf.
Deal with a bridezilla
Speaking of the bride, one thing that every maid of honour has to come to terms with is that part of your job is going to be dealing with a bride who is stressed out, frustrated and angry a lot of the time. Planning a wedding is hard, especially if you’re doing it yourself. Combine that with the rollercoaster of emotions that she’s probably feeling then you’ve got a recipe for a bridezilla. Like it or not, there’s a chance that you’re simply going to need to be willing to put up with a bride who’s throwing tantrums and yelling in your face from time to time. Just remember that it’s not directed at you. They’re under a lot of stress, and sometimes they just need to vent.
Manage rowdy guests
No bride wants a drunken relative heckling the speeches or making a mess on the dance floor. Because of that, you’re probably going to end up on drunk duty. It’ll be your job to corral guests away from where they would cause a scene, either to a taxi where they can go home, or somewhere quiet to relax and sober up a bit.
This week has gone pretty quick I think. It’s also the start of the Easter Holidays next week. What have you got planned for them?
I have started to read this super cute book my mum and dad brought me as a little joke pressie. It has loads of cute little quotes from lots of different people about babies.
I am now 27 weeks pregnant so had my 26-week midwife check up at my doctors to see how I was getting on and if the baby was growing ok. We also got to listen to baby’s heartbeat again, so magical could never get bored of hearing it.
Nothing new really other than a new cardigan I brought for work from New Look in a Peachy colour, goes with anything and with me getting hot quicker it just keeps the chill off me but doen’t make me over hot.
We had a Hello Fresh box delivered with 3 delicious meals in. I cooked the Pan Fried Pork, it was scrummy and went down a treat with the other half who is super fussy when it comes to food. Will most definitely be cooking this again.
One of my all time favourite TV programmes that I’ve loved for ages….One born every minute.
I have finally discussed and agreed with HR at work when I would like my maternity leave to start. Officially 16th June (11 weeks today) I will be on Maternity Leave and be counting down the days till Baby cooper arrives. I am so excited and the count down is on.
What has your week involved?
No, I’m not a mother yet but I’m soon to be a mother in just 14 weeks. WE are both so excited and can’t wait.
My fiance went out and brought me these gorgeous Orange, Peach and white flowers for Mothers Day from Bump & Carly. They are just Beautiful and smell and brightened up our lounge and any dull days.
This week again has been a pretty boring one, got up gone to work, come home cooked tea, and gone to bed. I don’t feeel I can complete #LittleLoves every week as I don’t do enough to talk about so sadly I will join in as an when I have interesting stuff to tell you all.
Sadly another week where I haven’t done a great deal of reading at all. I think I spent about 10 minutes reading my kindle in bed one night before falling asleep, but that’s as far as it goes.
The complete devastation of the terror attack so close to home that happened in London last week. My thoughts go out to all those that witnessed it, that were injured and killed during it. RIP
I received a product review for me and bump and it is called a “Belly Belt” and basically, you can attach it to your jeans, skirts or any other piece of clothing to allow you to still wear your favourite clothes. Mine were my favourite skinny Jeans my mum brought me. It is fantastic and so comfy to wear not forgetting discrete so no one knows your wearing it. Full review coming soon.
We had the nursery furniture delivered the other weekend so was a case of getting it all put together and deciding how we wanted it laid out in the bedroom. It finally arrived at 12.30PM and took us 5 and half hours to put together and rearrange. I am so in love with it, fits perfectly in the room.
I haven’t watched much but the OH has started watching a series called “Mr Robot” and is based on computer hackers. It’s not my kinda program normally but I have found myself watching it on and off but then asking myself “What is going on”.
The weekend was glorious, the sun was shining and we went out to Hatton Locks for a couple of hours to let our dog Carly to have a run around and get us out the house. When we got home we went and did some gardening.
What has your week involved?
Another week has flown by and we are half way through another month, and another week closer to meeting out baby.
Erm…. Nothing sadly this week
The exciting news that my fiance has been offered and accepted a fantastic new career opportunity. He works currently as a Lettings Manager but has been selected to move and take on a bigger branch within Birmingham. I am super proud of him and he deserves this a million times over.
My new bra, I knew my bras were getting small for me but it was finding the time and the energy to actually go to the shops and get measured and fitted correctly. I popped into bravissimo in Solihull town centre and explain to the lady I would like a fitting and some advice as I was pregnant, she was more than happy to help. I told her the sort I wanted and she came back with 3 different style and designs. I tried them on but decided to choose the first one I tried as it was a lovely colour, style and very comfy. you can buy it here
Not everyone’s type of meal but we were feeling super lazy and the OH came up with the idea of chips, cheese and gravy for tea and it was amazing.
The inbetweeners movie…again
For the first time this year, I have been able to cut the lawn, only took the top off it as was still wet underneath but it looks so much better already, now to try and keep it up ever week. Also pottered around in the garden emptied my pots ready to refill with fresh new spring flowers and plants.
What has your week involved?
This week has been a mixture of weathers again, but Thursday was lovely, blue skies, the sun was shining and barely any clouds or wind made an appearance, it really did start to feel like Spring was finally on its way.
While waiting for the train I came across these miniature daffodils a pure sign of Spring. Whenever I see them they are sure to cheer me up.
Unfortunately, I missed last weeks #LittleLoves so I’m going to cheat a little and combine the two together this week.
I can’t believe we are already in March, where is this year going? Fingers crossed spring makes an appearance soonish.
It has been a crazy couple of weeks and I don’t seem to have had time to stop and breath. Here are this week little loves.
My Fiance and I had to go and give notice of our marriage at Solihull Registry Office, we were there for around 30 minutes and had to take lots of personal documents and answer questions then finally we were both given a document to read and sign to confirm we agreed and were happy to go ahead.
Me constantly coughing especially morning and night time as I’m still trying to get over a cold I’ve had for a few weeks now. It was even bad enough for the fiance to go and sleep in the spare room one night…Oooppss.
I had the biggest honour of been a bridesmaid for my Cousin and her fiance on their wedding day. She picked the most gorgeous dress that was perfect for me and fitted over my ever growing pregnancy bump.
I had half a day at work on Thursday last week so I came home and made a shepherd’s pie. It is very rare I can be bothered and have time after I walk in from a long day at work to actually cook anything that takes preparation or time to prepare. I like things that are quick and easy or I can just shove in the oven straight from the fridge/freezer. Having an early finish I didn’t really have any excuse.
I’m not normally into these celebrity comedy game show but I watched one on Tuesday night called “Play to the whistle” and I couldn’t stop laughing. It is hosted by Holly Willoughby and it features guests from the worlds of comedy and sports. If you get the chance it’s a must watch.
I went to my friends joint baby shower. It was at Blakesley Hall in Yardley and was good fun, we played lots of games, ate yummy food and had a good catch up with everyone. Even got a goodie bag at the end of it.
This time last weekend it had been an incredible moment in my life as I had been a bridesmaid for the first time in my life for my cousin Natalie’s Wedding at Shustoke Barns in Coleshill. It was an incredible day and I won’t ever forget it.
It was an Amazing day and I won’t forget it plus I loved my hair and dress, the colour and style were both perfect and spot on to fit over my ever growing 21-week pregnancy bump too.
Last weekend I was in Oxford for my cousins Hen Do. We all had a great time and went to a club on the night, we were in the VIP section and were brought a large bottle of prosecco and a bottle of vodka with mixtures and we just loved the way they were brought out with sparklers attached to the bottles, Couldn’t resist a photo opportunity.
Well this has been another crazy one, starting off with trying to recover from a crazy weekend in Oxford for my cousin’s hen do, where I literally survived, somehow on only 5 hours sleep the whole weekend after waking up at 7.30am Saturday morning and not going to bed until 4 am Sunday morning, Tuesday, we had a lovely day of a triple celebration as it was Valentines Day, Our 8 year Anniversary and we got our 20 week baby scan booked in for the afternoon too. One to certainly remember.
I surprised myself with this one, this week I have read the Metro 3 times on the train while on the way into work. Not very interesting though.
A Song that I used to love when I was younger and I still know all the words to it, sad I know, Called Saturday night at the movies by Robson & Jerome. Absolutely brilliant.
Quite a bit of TV actually. Suits on Sunday, Soaps in the week, Emmerdale & Coronation Street and a series on Amazon Prime called “The Fall”
A going out dress, finally the first time in a long time, I went to Oxford for my cousin’s hen do and it felt amazing to properly get dressed up and go out on the town, go for food, have a good old girly laugh and go to a club.
Well with our wedding fast approaching and a baby on the way I decided I needed to start planning and making the wedding invitations sooner rather than later. So Monday night when I got home from work I decided to make a start on them, with a little help from the OH. It is a very slow process but super exciting and I love the look of them. If you are getting married and require stationery, you can check out my handcrafted all occasion cards which are available for order here.
I created my first blog Facebook page with the help of my sister-in-law and would love people to maybe like it and follow my journey from a lifestyle blogger to a parenting blogger too.
How has your week been?
