Bakersday Cake | Review & Giveaway

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hope you you all had a fantastic Christmas & New Year?

Right how about we kick the new year off with a Bakerdays cake review & Giveaway?  I know we are all probably sick of seeing and eating but who can refuse cake?

Cake is one of my weaknesses so when I was offered a cake from bakerdays to review I happily obliged. I was able to choose my own personal design to go on the cake or you can pick from their pre design options.

It came presented in a lovely little metal tin, with a note and a christmas cracker which I felt was the ultimate little touch.

The processing of the cake was so easy, choose your design, the flavour of sponge you want and then it gets delivered straight through your letter box hassle free.  The cake was delicious, fluffy and light and didn’t last very long. With some cake you can find that it is very sickly sweet but this wasn’t, the icing was perfectly gooey.

If you would love to be in with a chance of winning a cake for yourself or as a gift for a friend or family member then enter using the rafflecopter link below.  You have until the 29th January 2018 to enter.  GOOD LUCK!

The Christmas Tag

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE!!

The lovely Rachel from Coffee, Cake, Kids tagged me in her Christmas Tag post, and I thought it was a lovely way to talk about Christmas, what it means to us and how we celebrate it.  So, here goes!

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Hmm, I think I would have to say Love Actually, Makes me feel proper Christmassy when I watch it.

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

Not that I can remember. I think there has been one where there’s been snow left on the ground from before, but I can’t actually remember it snowing on Christmas Day.

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

When I lived at home with my parents we’d get up open our presents at home and then each year take it in turns to either have it at my parents, go to my Aunties or go to my Grandparents for the rest of the day. Since Moving out I have gone to my Parents and the other half has gone to his parents.  This year is different as we are now married and have a little boy, so we’re spending the morning at home, going over to my parents for Christmas Dinner then over to my hubby’s nans to spend it with his parents, Sister and our Nephews.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

It has to be Fairytale of New York by the Pogues.  I love a good Christmas song as it really gets me in the spirit of the build up to the big day.

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

Nope, Never.  Never will do either.  I may introduce Freddie to a Christmas Eve Box when he’s older.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Rudolph, Dancer, Dasher, Blitzen, Cupid, Comet, Vixen, Donner, Prancer. I think?

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

Food. Family. Alcohol as last year I was pregnant. All the normal good stuff!

Is Your Christmas Tree Real or Fake?

Fake :(, I have always had a really one before I moved out but with our dog we didn’t want her to run into it and the get the needles in her paws etc so have a fake one.  Maybe when Freddie’s older I will persuade the hubby to get a really one as I love the smell and to me makes it feel really Christmassy.

What is your favourite holiday treat/food/sweet?

My Mums famous brandy truffles and Mint Matchsticks – Can’t get enough of them

What is the best present you have ever received?

As a child, Most probably my first hamster which I called Frisky. I had gone on for ages to my parents I would love a hamster and I got one. As a grown-up,

Where is your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I love spending time with my family so wherever they may be.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

I love wrapping presents I used to do all mine plus help my parents and In Laws do their’s.  I wouldn’t say I’m a pro at it but I certainly put lots of effort into it.

Most memorable Christmas memory?

Making a Christmas card for all the family last year to tell them we were expecting a baby.  I will never forget everyones reactions.  With the words ” Then there was four, Baby Cooper arriving July 2017″ printed on the front.

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

What truth?

What makes the holidays special for you?

Spending quality time with my family, plus seeing my nephews faces when they receive their presents from us and Santa.

MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Christmas Snowflake | Review

I love books, love reading them and I’m now making sure my little boy has the same by reading him stories and building him a collection up just like I had when I was a little girl.

Today I’m very excited to share something both beautiful and Christmassy with you – a wonderful, heart-warming and stunningly illustrated book The Christmas Snowflake by Wonderbly.

Wonderbly make the most beautiful, personalised books for children and we’ve been lucky enough to review one, So when wonderbly asked if we’d like to receive a copy of their new release for Christmmas, The Christmas Snowflake, I was only too happy to accept the offer.

We were able to personalise the book with a little note from ourself to our little boy Freddie for him to keep which I thought was lovely and is a perfect keepsake gift for anyone.

The Christmas Snowflake story centres around a snowflake, who is looking for a place to call home this Christmas – but only you and your loved ones can help her.  This is such a lovely, festive tale story.  The illustrations are absolutely stunning and you can add up to nine family members, which I think is great for thosee who are blessed with larger families – no one gets left out.

I decided to stick to just the three of us.  As an added extra surprise, the final page of the book contains a sweet little pull-out keepsake Snowflake ornament – perfect for hanging proudly on your Christmas tree.

The book prices start at £19.99, it is printed on luxurious, premium quality paper and available in hardback.

I would be sure to buy books from Wonderbly as presents for friends and family.

  • I was sent this product free of charge for the purpose of this review.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Bloom & Wild – Letter Box Drew Christmas Tree Review

The festive season is fast approaching upon us and with only 5 weeks till Christmas arrives and the man in the red suit comes and delivers your presents, it’s all very exciting but not to mention expensive.I have always had a really Christmas tree when I was living at home but since moving out we haven’t been able to have one which makes me sad, because our living room isn’t big enough and also because I worry about the needles that they will hurt our dog’s paws.

When Bloom & Wild got in touch as asked if I wanted to review one of their mini letter box Christmas trees I quickly said yes with Christmas fast approaching.

The drew Christmas tree

They hadn’t come into stock when they first contacted me so I had to wait a few weeks for it, a short time after I received an email to say my delivery was on it’s way to me and I could wait to see what it was like.

img_7509

The great thing about this company is their parcels fit through most letter boxes which are amazing, because if you are not at home they can just post it through your door, no trips to the post office, no knocking on neighbours doors or having to rearrange deliveries.

The Christmas tree came delivered in a lovely box all wrapped and very well presented.

img_7514

They also put a little note in the box too with instructions.  I love little touches like that.

img_7510 img_7511 Style your tree instructions

I carefully peeled the wrapping back and looked inside and the overpowering smell of pine and really fresh Christmas trees just hit you.  I love that smell.

Our mini drew tree

A day later when I had a bit of peace and quiet one evening I started to set my tree up,  I carefully took it out the box, untied the ribbon and set it gently into the little box it came with.  I did as the instructions told me and gently spread the branches out and lastly put the moss around the base of the tree and gave it a little drink of water and now it was ready for some decorations.

Our drew Christmas Tree

I left it for a few days to settle and to allow the branches to drop then decorated.

We then decorated our Christmas tree with mini baubles, sadly we didn’t have any mini lights to put on it or a small enough star to put on it either.

Our mini Christmas tree

Our mini tree is still going strong after well over a month of receiving it, so they are certainly a must buy for me for next year.  The smell of the tree is still strong and remind me of Christmas every day and has to be one of my favourite smells of all times.

Ensure Your Home Is Ready For Your Christmas Guests By Doing The Following Things

If it’s your turn to host Christmas this year, it can leave you feeling the heat. After all, there is so much you need to ensure your humble abode is ready. You want everyone to have a pleasant time in your property. And it’s important to also make sure it’s looking its best, so people think that your home is wonderful. Here are a few things you must do to ensure your home is ready for your Christmas guests.

Make sure the kitchen is clean and tidy

Your guests will be spending a lot of time in the kitchen this year. Whether it’s to make themselves drinks or to help you with the cooking, it will be one of the rooms they spend the most time in. Therefore, you need to make sure it’s clean and tidy before your guests arrive. You should give the sides a wipe down and get rid of any old items in the kitchen. Also, you might want to give the bins a thorough wash; the smells from old food might linger in your kitchen! And you should remember to give the oven a good clean before you before you stick the turkey in there this year! Here is an easy guide to cleaning your oven!

Make sure your heating is working efficiently

There’s nothing worse than your guests feeling cold while they are at your home celebrating the holidays. After all, you want a warm home to have an enjoyable Christmas. Therefore, before your guests arrive, you need to make sure your heating is working efficiently. That way, you can turn it to a good temperature to keep your family cozy. If you are having trouble with your heating, it’s best to get it sorted now before your guests arrive. You can look online to find a company who provide heating services. That way, they can resolve the issue quickly, and you can ensure the home is toasty before your guests arrive.

Get your bathroom all set for the guests

One thing you should make spick and span before your guests arrive is the bathroom. After all, you want it clean for your guests. Therefore, you should make sure you give it a good clean before they arrive. It would be wise to put some towels in the bathroom for them to use while they are visiting. And if you are lucky enough to have another bathroom, it might be wise to move your own items in there while you have guests over for the holidays.

Clear out your garage

Unless you want to start blocking your neighbor’s homes, it would be wise to sort out the car situation before your guests arrive. It would be a good idea to put your own car in the garage so that your guests can park on the driveway. Therefore, clean out your garage and put your car in there before the guests arrive. And make sure the driveway is in good condition before your guests arrive. After all, you don’t want them to end up with a flat tyre down to your drive!

And remember to cozy up your property. You ought to add some cozy blankets and cushions. And you should add some scented candles in your living room. As I said before, there are tons of beautiful Christmas scented ones around at the moment!

Break The Mould This Christmas And Do Something Different With Your Gifts

index

With Christmas looming around the corner, the stress is on. You need to find dozens of unique and interesting presents, some of which, for people you barely even know. This time of year is hard for everyone, but the challenge shouldn’t take away the festive fun. It’s easier than ever to be creative when it comes to buying gifts. Using the Internet and the tips from this post, you will find Christmas shopping a breath of fresh air, this year.

  • Preplanning

The best way to start this great endeavor is by putting on your thinking cap. You’re not ready to hit the shops yet! Each person you’re shopping for is going to have an intricate array of interests and desires. Your job is to translate this into the perfect gift.

Think about what you know about a person. Their hobbies and interests are very important, as well as their age and gender. Once you have established the things they enjoy, you can start thinking of the actual gifts. With each idea, you need to run down a checklist.

  • Will they like it?
  • Does it match their current interests?
  • Is it appropriate for them?
  • And can you see anyone else buying the same gift?

Of course, some of these are hard to answer. The first two questions can almost be rolled into one. The first point is more to establish how certain you are that they will like the gift. If you are doubtful, and that “will” becomes a “might,” it’s probably not a great gift. You never want to try and force a new hobby or interest on someone. Which is what the second point is for; if the gift doesn’t match what they already do, it will likely go untouched after the big day. The third point is pretty self-explanatory, but the fourth isn’t. Think about the receiver’s social circles, and try to decide whether or not someone else might buy the same gift.

  • Inspiration

If you’re struggling with preplanning, you’ll need a touch of inspiration. Here is where the Internet first comes in. There are loads of quirky and unique gift stores online. Although a lot of them are expensive, they’re great to give you some ideas. There are loads of sites around to inspire unique and unusual gift ideas, like Cuckooland or Hawkin’s Bazaar. These sites will often allow you to search by hobbies and gender/age, making it super easy to find what you need.

  • Be Creative

Be creative in all of your gift hunting. Use things like social media, to find out what people talk to their closest friends about. Talk to as many people who know the giftee as possible. The more you know about a person; the easier it is to find a gift.

If your biggest concern is the budget this holiday season, well thought out homemade gifts always go down well. If you have any skill, find a way to use it. The weirder and more unique, the better.

Hopefully, this will take away some of that seasonal stress we all know too well. Remember to put the effort in before you buy a gift, and that price isn’t everything.

Christmas Is Coming! Gift Ideas That’ll Make You The Best Aunt Ever

As you all know, my role as an auntie is one of the most important things in my life. I spend a lot of time planning out what I want to give them for birthdays and Christmas – what do you get for the kids who have everything? Christmas is coming up pretty rapidly in less than two months, so it’s that time of year when we’re all thinking about it! To help you out, here are some of my tried and tested gift buying practical tips.

bag-21467_960_720

Pick Toys That Encourage Creativity

Look out for toys that encourage children to use their imaginations. Not only will they get hours and hours of fun out of them, but you’ll be able to give yourself a smug pat on the back at the knowledge that you’re contributing to their creative education. Look out for doll houses, tea sets, and toy garages that will encourage children to make up their own stories. If you want to go more directly towards creative play, pick out art supplies like poster paints, play dough, craft supplies and sketchbooks. You’ll probably get some handcrafted artwork in a month’s time in return!

baby-921293_960_720

Make Sure Your Gift Is Appropriate For Their Age Group

It’s easy to fall into the trap of buying a present for a one year old that won’t be suitable until he or she is eighteen months old, in the safe knowledge that they’ll grow into it. But try to steer away from doing that! Parents will get frustrated and the little tot will be upset that they can’t play with their shiny new toy yet. Make sure you check the labels and look at the gift to ensure there aren’t any small parts that can be swallowed or choked on. If you’re buying for a baby, check out sites with well-known brands directly aimed at them – for example Bubbalove stock Babyboo, Beaba & more, meaning that when you buy from them you can also get a gift for the parents and stock up on presents for the next big celebration too.

reading-834944_960_720

Books Are Always Welcome!

One big exception to the age-appropriate rule is books – these are always a great gift even if your niece or nephew can’t read yet. Flicking through the pages of their favourite storybooks helps kids to get into the habit of reading, which will benefit them later in life. A wide book collection also encourages parents to read to their children at bedtime – this is a great part of their night time routine as it helps calm the child down to go to sleep and also aids parent/child bonding.

boat-1556264_960_720

Choose Gifts That Encourage Social Interaction

If, like me, you’re buying gifts for a set of siblings, you can pick out presents that they can all use together, like board games, sets of Lego or Duplo, and toys that can be used outside, like a set of badminton racquets and a net or a football goal for the back garden. It’s important for children to understand how to play independently, but there’s nothing better for parents to see than groups of siblings and friends hanging out and enjoying spending their time together. And, of course, that means that next time you go over, you can point the kids towards the board game you got them for Christmas, and sneak off with their parents for a leisurely glass of wine and catch-up chat!
