Meal Planning Mondays 20/08/18

Last week was a bit of a write of as our little boy was poorly, still don’t know what was wrong with him but he just kept crying so we decided to take him to Heartlands to get checked over.  So the meals we planned we kind of stuck too, but with both of us shattered I didn’t feel much like cooking.

This is my last working week here at Reed Exhibitions as I’m on holiday next week so me and Hubby can spend some time together before starting my new job beginning of september.

This weeks meals are:

A few weeks again we had our first proper family photoshoot as a review opportunity through John Jenkins Photography and finally got the photos sent to us.  We are totally in love with them and can’t wait to get them printed, framed and put up in various place around our house.

No Money, Mo’ Problems: An Organised Life Starts With Organised Funds

Everybody says they want an organised life, but the hectic nature of the modern world makes it very hard to achieve that. You get in from a long day at work and exhaustion stops you from being able to get through that long list of chores you promised you’d complete. When it comes to your finances, this is most likely the case. It’s so easy to lose tracks of bills you have or haven’t paid and how much money is in your pension or checking account. But an organised life starts with organised funds. Cash might not be the path to happiness, but we certainly need it to get by. Let’s talk about some ways to get your money in order.

Sort out your bills.

This is an obvious place to start. If you want to get your funds organised then you need to sort out your bills. Start off by making a budget. You need to give yourself a clear overview of your monthly expenditures. That way, you’ll know how much of your income needs to go towards your cost of living and how much is “disposable”. Calculate the cost of necessities such as rent (or mortgage payments), petrol, food, electricity, water, and other things you buy on a monthly basis. If you’re failing to cover those costs (or your disposable income is practically non-existent) then you could rethink some of your essential expenditures. Without compromising, you can save money on food by growing vegetables at home or save money on electricity by insulating your walls and windows to trap heat. Think outside the box. Of course, all of that is easier said than done. If you’re struggling to get your bills in order even after creating an organised budget and reducing unnecessary costs then you might want to consider alternative methods of covering your monthly payments. This is certainly the case when it comes to debt repayments. Many people struggle to meet deadlines for their college or mortgage loan repayments when they’ve got so many other bills to pay. Smyths Hape Pound and Tap Bench | Review

Freddie loves nothing more than to make as much noise as possible.

We were offered the opportunity to review the Hape Pound and tap bench which can be purchased from Smyths Toys for a price of £19.99.

What I love about this product is you can take the xylophone out so they can play with it separately.  It’s not to big so doesn’t take up much floor space and is wooden so can’t be destroyed easily.  The bright colours so you can thelp each them colours which will help with their development.

Since receiving this product Freddie has spend alot of time enjoying banging it and making lots of noise and would highly recommend it.

Meal Planning Mondays 13/08/18

Well I had some really exciting news this month, I’ve got a new job, Well not exactly new but back to my old place where I was before I went on maternity leave and got made redundant.  So i’ve got effectively got 3 weeks left here, then a week with the husband at home bank holiday week, then I start the beginning of September.

The last few weeks have been hard for meal planning as i’ve been poorly with a bacterial throat infection and had a fever all weekend but i’m on the mend now with a course of antibiotics and back to finding new meal ideas.

This weeks meals are:

Pizza, Chips and Salad

Jacket Potato, Bean, Cheese & Salad

Spaghetti Bolognese

Paprika Chicken, Rice & salad

Stirfry

Pan Fried Pork with homemade wedges

Shepherds Pie, veg & gravy

Safety 1st Timba highchair | Review

Our little boy is growing up way to quickly and can crawl, pull himself up and very nearly walk by himself.  He loves his food too.  We had to get 3 highchairs and that’s not cheap so when I was offered one from safety 1st I jumped at the opportunity.

My husband put it together the evening we received it but it wasn’t easy at all, it all came flat packed with instructions but they were pretty useless.  It was a 2 person job as you couldn’t slide any pieces into the frame you had to build it from one side to the other whilst trying to hold it all together

Once we finally fixed it all together, the next day we put Freddie in it, he seemed to like it but when there’s food around he will happily sit anywhere.

Unfortunately, the downside for us with this highchair is you can’t fold it away in a cupboard, once it is put together you have to dismantle it to put it away, luckily our kitchen is big enough to be able to leave it up.  Another thing I would change would be the straps as Freddie can easily turn around in it and has already nearly climbed out of it once as he has managed to wriggle his legs out of the straps, therefore I feel the safety of this highchair is not up to standard.

It easy to wipe over but if food is left or missed it is hard to get it off and have to use brute force.

I can’t say I would purchase this highchair in the future because of some of the points above.

Shuffle Your Music – What’s On Your Playlist?

I don’t listen to music as often as I would like to these days. When I’m at home alone, I would normally put the TV on and listen to music channels or tend to put Spotify on my phone on the speaker in the kitchen if i’m in the garden.

Whenever we go out, I tend to stick on the radio or the odd CD, yes I do still listen to CD’s in my car.

Anyway, I was tagged by Rachel from Coffee,Cake, Kids to put on my playlist (I only have one called Kims Playlist, with only 150 tracks on), put it on shuffle and write about the first fifteen songs that came on. I thought it could end up quite interesting – I have a really wide taste in music, which the songs below show from pop, rock to RnB.

I have always been a huge fan of Nickleback, I’ve been to see them in concert and they were AMAZING!! I can never get bored of their songs and love them all plus know all the words to the majority of their songs.

     2. She’s Kind Hot – 5 Seconds of Summer

.A bit of cheese, I don’t know what it is about this song but it is so catchy and just got caught up in it and couldn’t stop listening to it.

     3. The One – Kodaline

This is my favourite ever song because it was our first dance song at our wedding back in October 2017.  I know all the words and it brings tears to my eyes and chokes me up everytime I listen to it.  I could never get bored of such a beautiful and meaningful song.

     4. The Reason – Hoobastank

I have loved this song for many years, it was a favourite of mine and my best friend Coral in school, and still know all the words to this song too.  I have there album too which is a good one to have.

     5. Vintage Queen – Goldfinger

I think I heard this is a film I watched and it stuck me so I downloaded it.  It isn’t to everyones taste but I like it.  Its a bit like rock music but I like all types of music.

     6. Foundations – Kate Nash

This is so old but I still love it and know all the words.  This is another song I can’t seem to get bored of.

    7. Good Grief – Bastille

Great band, great catchy music, love it.

8.  Berzerk – Eminem

Eminem is not everyones cup of tea and I don’t like all his song but his few recent ones I have loved and this is one of them.

     9. JCB Song – Nizlopi

This is a real cheese ball of a song if you have never listened to it or heard of it, go download it or listen too it.

10. This is me – The Greatest Showman

I heard this song once on the radio and was instantly addicted to it’s catchy tune.  I’m still yet to watch the movie itself

11. Shotgun – George Ezra

I’ve never been a huge George Ezra fan but his latest two songs I am loving and find myself singing at the top of my voice in the car when they come on the radio everytime.

12. Beautiful Trama – Pink

I have always been a huge fan of Pink, have seen her in concert too and she was brilliant.  I have all her albums so was super excited when she released her new ones and Immediately downloaded them.

13. Ugly Heart – G.R.L

I don’t even know where I heard this song but it was right up my street so downloaded it.

14. Paradise – George Ezra

As said above, his new songs are addictive

15. Parklife – Blur

I’m not a blur fan but this song is the only one I do like and the video is funny too.

Meal Planning Monday 06/08/2018

WOW how are we entering the month of August already.  This year is just flying  by far too quickly. 

I have to try and think of new meals every week on my own and this week I made sure the husband told me what meals he wanted for a change, so I could go food shopping with meals in my head.

This weeks meals are:

Hunters Chicken and homemade wedges

Jacket Potatoes, beans, cheese & Salad

Chilli & brown rice

Chicken, bacon and cheese sauce Tagitelle

Pork stirfry

Cottage pie, Veg and gravy

Lamb roast dinner and all the trimmings

My journey with A “Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor”

Where it all started

This all started back when I was a teenager and I first started my periods.  It was a Saturday morning and I was meant to be going to my friend’s swimming party but then I started feeling faint, funny like my head was going to pop, I was getting very hot, my vision went all blurry but I just kept tell my mum I was fine and I was going to the party. Then bang, I knocked myself out by walking into the door frame of my bedroom, next thing I remember was opening my eyes to my mum and Auntie who was a nurse, holding a cold flannel on my head.   

I just put it down to blood pressure etc.… due to the changes in my body, but little did I know I would have it continue for a number of years.   

I just carried on with normal everyday life and was able to tell when the episodes (if that’s what you can call them) were coming on so I was able to make sure I was in a safe place. 

There was no pattern, no particular time they were happening so I decided I would go to my doctors to seek advice and see if he had any options as to what could be causing them.  He sent me for blood tests, ECG’s and I had to wear a 24 hour monitor to see if it picked anything up such as irregular heartbeat, palpitations etc but it all came back clear.   

They then seem to disappear for a while but it was always playing on my mind, my doctor was considering taking my license off me incase it happened whilst driving but luckily it never came to that.     

Then one morning back in 2015 I  got up to start getting ready for work and could feel this episode coming on, I went in the bathroom ran my wrist under cold water and sat on the toilet and started to feel better after a few minutes, so I got up and started walking back to the bedroom and that was as much as I remember until I woke up with my head over the stairs, I don’t remember anything at all.  All this happened while my husband was asleep in bed just a few meters away and he never heard a thing.   I knew then I had to get to the bottom of this as it could have ended a lot worse.  Once I got to work I made another appointment with my doctor and explain what happened and he referred me back to the hospital for more tests and investigations with a cardiologist, it was then decided after seeing a consultant that I would have a reveal device insert to monitor my heart.

The Procedure

I had my appointment come through for beginning of June 2016 to be in for day surgery at Solihull hospital.  I was given a local anesthetic in my chest to numb the area for them to insert the device, all while been awake. I was told it was going to take approximately 30 mins in total.

I’m left now with a tiny scar which is barely noticeable

I will have the device for 3 years as that’s as long as one battery lasts at a time and is worth £2000, which sounds like a lot for such a small device but it’s got a job to do, but you don’t even know it is there unless you run your finger over my skin and you can feel it.  A lot of people are creeped out by it but I love it and just sit there and mess with it and move it around.  I must have 6 monthly or yearly appointments to check it but I can also do all my downloads at home with my home device that get sent straight through to the hospital.  

It is a simple quick 5 minute task as is a case of picking up the held hand device, placing it on my scar and pressing the button then within a matter of seconds everything will be downloaded and sent to the hospital all pain-free.

I’m in my second year now of having the insertable cardiac monitor and only have one year left and by next June I may be free from this device.

Take The Hassle Out of Dog Ownership!

Our dogs are some of the most important things in the world to us, and of course having them in our lives is never a hassle. However, there are some elements of their care that can be time consuming and others which can cause us stress when life gets in the way. Here’s how you can make things a little easier.

Automate feeding

There are lots of reasons why you might want to use a dry dog food dispenser. Perhaps you work at different times, but don’t want to mess up your dogs feeding schedule. Maybe your dog is on a special diet and can only eat a certain amount at certain times, or maybe it’s just for convenience. Instead of having to dig around in the cupboard and fill up your dog’s bowl every day out of a giant heavy bag, you can fill it up once a week and let the dispenser do the rest. It takes the hassle completely out of feeding as you know exactly how much food your dog is getting and when. It allows you to keep a good schedule, and prevents them eating too much at once if free feeding isn’t an option.

Find reliable kennels

One of the most stressful parts of dog ownership is finding someone to look after them when you’re away. This could be for an overnight hospital stay, a mini break, a full vacation or anything in between. One of the best things you can do to save yourself stress is to find reliable kennels. A good company that you trust and who you know will look after your dog in your absence. Go and take a tour with your dog and get them signed up, that way it’s easy to book them in when you need to go away. Be sure your dogs annual boosters are done and that you keep the vaccination proof card as this will need to be shown every time you stay.

Find a local dog walker

Taking your dog on walks is one of the best things about having one, all of the adventures you will go on together are so special. It keeps you both fit and is bonding time between you and your pooch. But if there are times when you’re stuck at work, can’t get home on time or are generally away from home without it being planned for then having a dog walker nearby can put your mind at ease. This could be a friend or family member or you could use a trusted dog walker from a company. Put your key in a safe place so they can let themselves in if needed and let your dog out, spend time with them or walk them so they’re ok until you get back.
